Having played flyball for over six years, providing over three years of continuous service to the Australian Flyball Committee as general committee, NSW Regional Rep, V.P. and currently the AFA President I have been totally committed to the sport. I would like to contribute further to develop our sport as President in 2008/2009 through the core values of Respect, Integrity, Fairness and Trust.
My vision is to continue to promote flyball, so that it remains to be the fastest growing dog sport in Australia. As President I have ensured that the objectives of the AFA are fulfilled through the management of an effective and supportive AFA committee. The principal activities of the AFA are to provide training and guidance for flyball, participate in flyball demonstrations, conduct and/or sanction flyball competitions, create and maintain an up-to-date database of results from sanctioned competitions, issue club awards and titles.
I am fully experienced and model the code of conduct for AFA committee including not putting the interests of another company or organisation above the interests of the AFA, not allowing personal interests to conflict with the interests of the AFA and declaring a conflict of interest when it arises. I have stood down from any Committee when debating about disciplinary or other matters which involve my own club. Ensuring honesty and acting in the best interest of the AFA as a whole.
My commitment to flyball has been demonstrated through:
- Promoting positive reinforcement canine training principles, assisting to train others towards best flyball practice and making the handling of dogs popular.
- Regular contributions to the AFA website and newsletter including reports, write ups and photographs.
- Being the most travelled team in Australia 2007/2008.
- Assisting to host and promote flyball competitions, training days, demonstrations and mock comps
- Successful fundraising and being part of the committee which has purchased four sets of Signature timing equipment.
- Part of the team which has implemented the new AFA website functions and logo.
- Promoting Flyball on national television including the “Guinness World Record”, “Talk to the Animals” and “Totally Wild” shows, which represents “priceless coverage” on Channels 7, 9 and 10.
- Introducing Flyball TV website, including flyball video uploads.
- Travelling to the USA, liaised and bridged a closer bond with NAFA.
- Chairing national committee meetings which are highly efficient and productive.
- Successfully negotiated the final signing of the ANKC/AFA Agreement. Allowing both bodies to play flyball under a common set of rules and recognition of AFA titles by ANKC/State Control Bodies.
- Insisting on the transparency of AFA Committee minutes which can now be viewed by members.
- Recent clarification and developed the AFA rules.
- Co-founding the establishment of Norwest Flyball
- Experience on OHS committees which foster a pro-active policy of “safety first”.
- Employment as an Assistant Principal and teacher for 25 years. Experience in meeting procedure and committee protocol. Equally employment opportunity principles and clear understanding of democratic process, natural justice and fair play for all
- Being on the AFA Committee during rapid growth of the sport, as the frequency of sanctioned competitions has doubled in four years.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Perseverance and the resilience to see a job completed from start to finish.
- Promoting community awareness of responsible dog ownership and advocating fun in flyball.
I hope that you allow me to continue to serve as President, so that we can continue to grow and develop flyball Australia wide.
Yours in flyball,
Glenn Pritchard.
Trent Shepherd
Thank you for the opportunity to provide a statement in relation to my nomination for President of the Australian Flyball Association.
As President, my number one priorty would be working towards ensuring fairness and equity in the sport of flyball. Our current committee have done a great job but it is time for others to take on some of the responsibility and to be a balance to the current predominance of one club within the committee.
I have no plans to rush into changing anything in our sport, not the point system, measuring, associations or relationships with other bodies. Rather, I would hope to build on current relationships and make them stronger to build on the popularity of our sport and make it accessible to all. I love the sport and wish to contribute as much as possible to assist others in having fun with their dogs. To this end, I would be interested in hearing from the members about their experience of recent changes to the rules and policies and what direction they would like to take the association in from here.
My contribution to flyball to date is evident in my role as a Level 1 judge and in being ticketed steward and ticketed timekeeper. I have in the past contributed to the committee at various times as webmaster and NSW representative, and to other subcommittees as required.
In short, my main aim is to work with the membership to make flyball available to all handlers and all dogs, and not just those concentrating on reaching particular goals. As the president of our association I would seek to be a "servant" for all of our members forgoing my own opinions and interests (personal or club) for the majority of our members.
Thank you for your support.
PS, Glenn has also nominated please come along and show your support.
